Cabana Boys Hit Pierce Beach

posted Jul 23, 2013, 6:59 AM by Somerset Recreation   [ updated Jul 23, 2013, 7:03 AM ]

Sunday evening the 2 man group know as the Cabana Boys treated a nice crowd at Pierce Beach with songs from Jimmy Buffet, Beach Boys, Neil Diamond and many more. Playing for the Somerset Recreation Department for the first time, Bob and Brian, thrilled the crowd with many different melodies and ended the evening with the popular beach song "Wipeout".
The Cabana Boys concert was the second in a series of 4 to be held at the beach this summer as a result of fundraising efforts for the Summer Beach Concert Series.  The next concert will be held on Sunday, August 4th, 5:30 - 8:00 pm with the group New Islanders. a popluar band that plays Oldies to top 40's. Bring a chair and a friend - and the Snack Shack will be open for your convenience.

Happy New Year!

A new year means a healthy new you?  That's what I'm aiming for in 2012.  To start my fitness trend, I am going to participate in our new Couch to 5K program!  Taught by our own Commissioner Jen Costa, she will teach the ins and outs of running and nutrition.  She will kick me into shape and you can also participate!  At the end of the 8 week program, we have started a NEW 5K road race called the SHAMROCK SHUFFLE!  Everyone is encouraged to sign up for this great new race.  This will be my first try at a road race, and I even made a goal of running three 5K's this year.  I think I can do it, and I know you can do it too!  Join me!  Here's to a happy and healthy 2012!

Candidate's Night

So I attended my first Candidate's Night last night and I'm very glad that I went.  It was great to see all the candidates, not only for recreation, but for the other postions in town.  All the candidates did a great job.  I give them a lot of credit for having the courage to put themselves out there!  Good luck to all the men and women running in this year's election!

This week I traveled to Hyannis with the Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association for our annual conference.  I got to "'play" with my fellow professionals in recreation and go to some great sessions and learn new things.  I got some great information on how to make our summer program better, learned some fun new camp games, made connections with some great department and more.  There was also a very informative session about inclusive programming.  It was perfect since we are teamed up with Somerset PACE to bring some new inclusive programs to the great kids of Somerset.  I am hoping to bring the things I learned to our department to make it a better place to play!
